No matter how many steps we take to protect our bodies, the truth is we are exposed to thousands of toxins on a daily basis. (1) The good news is that our bodies are prepared for this and created with built-in detox functionality; the bad news is there is such a thing as toxic overload. - Parabens
-You may be thinking, where have I heard this term before? Oh yes, it has been proven to cause cancer, specifically breast cancer. (2)
- Steareth
-You can thank this ingredient for creating the solid nature of your roll-on deodorant, but it’s risky business using an untested chemical, however low it’s toxicity may be. (2)
- Triclosan
-This ingredient may sound familiar if you have a green thumb—technically it’s a pesticide. (1) The FDA has also issued warnings regarding triclosan because of its negative effect on thyroid function. (2)
- Propylene Glycol
-While this ingredient does a great job absorbing water, research suggests it also can cause harm to the central nervous system. (1,2)
After reading this list of harmful ingredients, your first reaction may be to ban all deodorant from your life. While there are lots of things that we do natural in our own lives, skipping out on wearing deodorant is not one of them!
